Meet Our Owners: John Schroeder, John Patton, and Jay Maxey

Huntingburg natives and lifelong friends, our three owners share a passion for barbeque and interesting cuisine, leading them to establish Butcher and Barrel.  All three returned to Huntingburg to raise their families, where they began competing in Kansas City BBQ Society competitions.  Their consistent success in these competitions fueled their ambition to open a barbeque-focused establishment with a fine dining twist, culminating in the creation of Butcher & Barrel.  


The owners share a vision to bring the elements of fine dining into the community without the pretentiousness normally associated with fine dining restaurants.  They strive to create a welcoming atmosphere close to home where people can enjoy chef-inspired cuisine and perfectly paired cocktails.

Hamiltion J. Hogsworth


At the heart of Butcher & Barrel is a dapper pig named Hamilton J. Hogsworth. Hamilton is something of an arrogant swine who fancies himself a gentleman about town, sporting a top hat, a monocle, and a bow tie with his well-tailored suit. Heir to a truffle fortune, he is the epitome of charm and sophistication, embodying the spirit of prosperity and excellence. Hamilton’s refined palate gives him an innate knack for selecting the juiciest cuts of meat paired with the finest bourbon and wine, much to the delight of Butcher & Barrel’s cherished patrons.


His loyalty and dedication have earned him the honor of becoming the restaurant’s esteemed ambassador. Dressed in his finest attire, you might find Hamilton greeting guests with a graceful trot and a joyful snort, showcasing the rustic elegance and prosperity that defines Butcher & Barrel.
